Position Summary:
 
The New York County District Attorney’s Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for an Assistant Supervisor in the Notifications Department of the Witness Aid Services Unit (WASU). In this position the Assistant Supervisor is responsible for obtaining signed supporting depositions, assisting victims in understanding the criminal justice system, provides information regarding crime victims’ rights, while supporting the Notifications department.
  
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Assist with supervision of WASU Notification and Property Release Units.
  • Contact victims and witnesses to obtain a supporting deposition.
  • Inform victims of the wide range of services available to them through WASU.
  • Explain the criminal justice system and provide case information.
  • Assist victims with orders of protection and registration for notification of inmate release.
  • Assist WASU Director, Deputy Director with special projects.
  • Liaise with DANY staff and City agencies on behalf of crime victims.
  • Assist in supervision of the office's stolen property release program.
  • Provide coverage as needed to all divisions within Notifications.
  • Oversee the daily functions of the Supreme Court Disposition letter program.
  • Assist with staff interviewing, training, Talking Points, and program development.
  • Perform related administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Experience working with domestic violence, sexual assault and/or human trafficking preferred.
  • Familiarity with the criminal justice system preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity to victim issues a must.
  • Ability to handle high caseload and set priorities.
  • Excellent engagement, and assessment skills needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be detail oriented self-motivated, able to multi-task, and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Ability to interact effectively with victims, witnesses, Assistant District Attorneys, law enforcement officers and criminal justice personnel.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
  • ASL proficiency a plus.
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible hours including holidays, evenings and weekends.
Commitment:
  • One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
