Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Program Coordinator in the DANY Academy. The DANY Academy is charged with sponsoring symposia on significant national criminal justice issues, critically reviewing initiatives by DANY and other District Attorney’s Offices, and pursuing innovative projects to improve prosecution and criminal justice more broadly. The Program Coordinator will provide administrative and paralegal support to the unit and office, reporting directly to the Director of the DANY Academy. There will also be leadership opportunities for the Program Coordinator within certain DANY Academy projects, and the Program Coordinator will occasionally provide case-related paralegal support.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assist in researching, identifying, and prioritizing national criminal justice issues that are important to DANY.
  • Assist in administering all program events including coordinating and scheduling with outside offices and individuals.
  • Coordinate reproduction and preparation of handouts, manuals, and other materials for DANY Academy programs and events.
  • Update and maintain inventory of all DANY Academy materials.
  • Update and maintain DANY Academy information on DANYNet (Sharepoint) and the DANY external website.
  • Assist in ensuring certain DANY Academy events qualify for Continuing Legal Education credit.
  • Assist in legal research and writing of legal memos on assigned topics.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, and research skills a must.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and internet required, including document formatting in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of Lexis preferred.
  • Superior organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task and interact with all levels of DANY staff and outside agency staff.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Paralegal experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Office and the criminal justice system a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
Commitment:
  • Two (2) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
