Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Case Coordinator in the Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) Unit. The goal of the unit is to ensure that eligible defendants are offered programming and services that meet their needs, with the ultimate aim of reducing recidivism and promoting public safety. The Case Coordinator is responsible for managing a caseload of ATI defendants, facilitating defendant program referrals and placement, monitoring defendant compliance, and reporting outcomes to DANY and the court.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Managing a caseload of defendants participating in program dispositions through the ATI Unit;
  • Participation in defendant interviews to determine defendants’ needs, and researching the range of appropriate service providers;
  • Coordination of referrals to service providers, including facilitation of interviews, documentation, medication, and defendants’ entitlements;
  • Procuring reports from service providers regarding defendants’ progress and ensuring reports are accurate and thorough;
  • Acting as a liaison between service providers, ADAs, the court, and defense counsel regarding defendants’ progress and compliance; attending scheduled court dates of defendants on caseload;
  • Maintaining contact with defendants between court dates;
  • Maintaining current and accurate notes regarding defendants’ progress in electronic databases and paper files of the ATI Unit;
  • Organizing and attending meetings with service providers throughout New York City; compiling notes and maintaining databases regarding same;
  • Keeping abreast of relevant evidence-based practices; attending trainings and team meetings to that end; and
  • Performing other job-related duties and select projects as required/appropriate.


Qualifications:

  • Superior administrative, writing, and communication skills.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative, good judgment, and ability to work within a team.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of the social service landscape in New York City.
  • Familiarity with the concepts of Risk-Need-Responsivity, procedural justice, and problem-solving courts.
  • A strong belief that rehabilitative approaches to justice involvement and addressing root causes of criminal behavior can yield positive public safety outcomes when appropriate defendants are matched with the right services.


Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking
  • Two years of experience in case management field
  • Two years of experience in criminal justice field
  • Master's-level social work degree or CASAC credentialing


Commitment:

  • Two (2) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
