Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney’s Office (DANY) has an immediate opening in its Special Victims Bureau for a Clinical Forensic Specialist with a focus in dealing with child victims, and/or children who have witnessed violence. The Special Victims Bureau oversees five units that specialize in handling cases involving special victims: Sex Crimes Unit, Child Abuse Unit, Domestic Violence Unit, Elder Abuse Unit, and Human Trafficking Unit. The mission of the bureau is to bring order and stability to victims' lives while ensuring that their voices are heard in the criminal justice system.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Conduct the forensic interview process of children.
  • Conduct an assessment of the child and family members to determine the impact of the trauma, and the need for treatment for the child and family.
  • Provide trauma focused crisis intervention and support to the child and family in the process of making effective linkages to mental health treatment and other services if warranted.
  • Follow up contact with victims to monitor their connection to services.
  • Coordinate with the assigned Assistant District Attorneys, and the Witness Aid Services Unit team to ensure that the child’s and family’s needs are addressed.
  • Victim support and court accompaniment throughout the criminal justice process.
  • Act as a liaison between victims, families, and Assistant District Attorneys and orient victims to the prosecutorial process and provide case status information.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • New York State LMSW/LCSW.
  • Experience working with children required.
  • Expertise in Forensic Interviewing or willingness to acquire this specialized skill required.
  • At least one year of post- Masters experience working with children and families impacted by violence preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity to victim issues a must.
  • Ability to handle high caseload and set priorities.
  • Excellent engagement, interviewing, crisis intervention and assessment skills needed.
  • SIFI certified/eligible preferred.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment; must be detail oriented self-motivated and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to interact effectively with victims, witnesses, families, law enforcement officers and criminal justice personnel.
Educational Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Social Work required.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
  • ASL proficiency preferred.
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible hours including holidays, evenings and weekends.
Commitment:
  • One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau
