Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney’s Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for a Clinical Counseling Supervisor in the Counseling Department of the Witness Aid Services Unit (WASU). In this position the Supervisor is responsible for providing supervision and oversight to the Counseling Department. Additionally, the Supervisor will provide counseling and therapeutic services to assist crime victims, witnesses, and their families.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide direct oversight of the Counseling Department.
• Supervise/oversee Assistant Supervisor, LMSW/LCSW staff within the department and the Special Victims Bureau.
• Assign work activities, monitor work flow, review, evaluate, and communicate progress.
• Manage staff development (i.e. Talking Points), and staff interviewing.
• Coordinate with the Deputy Director to provide staff training in the Counseling department.
• Develop innovative methods of service delivery based on needs of crime victims, witnesses, and their families.
• Input and track statistical data for the Office of Victim Services (OVS) grant for the department.
• Conduct mental health evaluation and concrete needs assessment.
• Crisis intervention and Safety planning.
• Conduct counseling/therapy sessions in either individual and/or group settings.
• Promote victim advocacy and coordinate referrals to outside agencies.
• Provide support and court accompaniment to victims throughout the criminal justice process.
• Maintain accurate up-to-date case files.
• Follow up with victims to monitor their connection to services.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team.
• Act as a liaison between victims, families, and Assistant District Attorneys, and orient victims to the prosecutorial process and provide case status information.
• Provide case consultation on Counseling cases within WASU, the Special Victims Bureau, and assigned Assistant District Attorneys.
• Supervise SIFI/MSW students.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• New York State LCSW required.
• Five years’ post LCSW experience required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
• Experience working with domestic violence required.
• Experience working with child abuse, sexual assault and/or human trafficking preferred.
• Familiarity with the criminal justice system preferred.
• Familiarity with City/Government agencies preferred.
• Ability to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity to victim issues a must.
• Ability to handle high caseload and set priorities.
• Excellent engagement, crisis intervention, and assessment skills needed.
• SIFI certification required, or must obtain within six (6) months of hire.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
• Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
• Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
• Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
• Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment; must be detail oriented self-motivated and able to multi-task.
• Ability to interact effectively with victims, witnesses, Assistant District Attorneys, law enforcement officers and criminal justice personnel.

Educational Requirements:

• Masters in Social Work required.
• LCSW required.
• SIFI certification required, or must obtain within six (6) months of hire.

Preferred Requirements:

• ASL proficiency preferred.
• Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
• Familiarity with the criminal justice system preferred.
• Ability to work overtime and flexible hours including holidays, evenings, and weekends.

Commitment:

• One (1) year commitment to hiring bureau.
