Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has openings for paralegals in the Sex Crimes Unit of the Special Victims Bureau starting in Summer 2021. The Sex Crimes Unit handles all felony sexual assault prosecutions where the victims are 14 years or older. The Unit’s experienced, specially-trained prosecutors strive to bring the strongest prosecutions for victims of these heinous crimes. In addition, the Unit also handles unlawful surveillance prosecutions and prosecutions for violations of sexual offender registration laws. Paralegals provide a full-range of support to the Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) prosecuting these crimes. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assist ADAs in all aspects of investigations and trials.
  • Conduct forensic previews and analysis on electronic devices.
  • Attend witness interviews in sex crimes cases.
  • Generate subpoenas; obtain evidence; conduct on-line investigations and phone record analysis in significant cases.
  • Compile and analyze case documents for hearings and trials.
  • Draft correspondence and legal documents.
  • Testify before the Grand Jury, at trial and other judicial proceedings.
  • Perform related administrative and clerical tasks.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent organization, communication, writing, and problem solving skills are essential.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to quickly learn and use various computer systems.
  • Ability to work independently with frequent interruptions, manage deadlines and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Fluency in a foreign language is helpful though not necessary.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required or expected by candidate's start date.
Commitment:
  • Two (2) year commitment to hiring bureau.
