Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for an Antiquities Trafficking Analyst. In this position, under the supervision of a lead prosecutor, the analyst is responsible for providing critical analytical support to the Office. The analyst will engage in a broad spectrum of activities, ranging from gathering information via subpoenas, search warrants, and legal research to critically analyzing that information for use in criminal prosecution against trafficking participants such as looters/thieves, smugglers, financiers, shippers, gallery owners, restorers, on-line sites, conservators, auction houses, museum curators, and other facilitators, whether individuals or corporations, that allow trafficking to exist.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Utilizing all the tools available to recover looted antiquities and prosecute the offenders.
  • Working with local, national, and international law-enforcement agencies, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, and members of the diplomatic corps.
  • Gathering and analyzing information from all sources, to include subpoenas, search warrants, and witnesses.
  • Working with prosecutors to ensure efficient processing and eventual repatriation of confiscated materials.
  • Conducting substantial legal research on New York Criminal Law and international patrimony laws.
  • Compiling and analyzing case documents for hearings and trials, and coordinating schedules with courts, law-enforcement officials, witnesses, and defense attorneys.
  • Performing related and administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong writing and researching ability, with facility in legal research.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
  • Ability to update and edit existing databases.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, law-enforcement representatives, and members of foreign governments.
  • Familiar with all forms of social media.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language is preferred.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Post-graduate education or experience in cultural heritage preferred, but not required.
Commitment:
  • Two (2) year commitment to hiring bureau.
