Description
Position Summary:
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office (DANY) seeks a Media Relations Specialist to join its Communications team. DANY is one of the nation’s preeminent prosecutor’s offices and a leader in the development of innovative crime fighting strategies and justice reform initiatives.

 Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Pitch/place compelling stories in print, broadcast, and web media to showcase the office’s work to fight crime and reform the criminal justice system.
  • Field inquiries from local, national, and international news outlets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with journalists with an eye towards new outlets and audiences.
  • Enhance the office’s relationships with community, ethnic, and emerging media.
  • Draft press releases, media advisories, and pitch materials.
  • Coordinate press conferences and public events.
  • Identify and publicize prosecutions that showcase the office’s key priorities.
  • Perform on-call press duty, including occasional after-hours and weekend availability (compensated).
  • Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Three to five years of related work experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff, other law enforcement agencies, and outside organizations.
  • Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated with the ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with New York City media preferred.
  • Interest in criminal justice, government, and politics a plus.
Commitment:
  • One (1) year commitment to hiring bureau.
