Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for a Bureau Coordinator in its Special Victims Bureau (SVB). The Special Victims Bureau oversees five units that specialize in handling cases involving the most vulnerable victims: the Sex Crimes Unit, Child Abuse Unit, Domestic Violence Unit, Elder Abuse Unit, and Human Trafficking Unit. The mission of the bureau is to bring order and stability to victims' lives while ensuring their voices are heard in the criminal justice system.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Screen Special Victims Bureau (SVB) cases.
  • Liaise on behalf of DANY with assistant district attorneys, Courts, NYPD, and other agencies.
  • Coordinate and acquire Special Victims Bureau Desk Appearance Tickets (DATs), Domestic Incident Reports (DIRs), Orders of Protection (OOPs), and other time sensitive documents.
  • Assist Director of Legal Outreach with U-Visa applications.
  • Assist in witness interviews.
  • Prepare subpoenas; obtain evidence; and perform other related paralegal duties for SVB cases.
  • Compile statistical reports and maintain logs of SVB cases and inquiries.
  • Gather information and research prior history and background in SVB cases using appropriate databases.
  • Coordinate and organize SVB presentations and trainings.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills are essential.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative, and good judgment essential.
  • Ability to work independently with frequent interruptions, manage deadlines, and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Ability to learn, update, and edit existing proprietary applications and quickly learn and use various computer systems.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, court representatives, law enforcement representatives, and witnesses.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required; graduate work a plus. 
Preferred Requirements:
  • One (1) year paralegal or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience in the area of domestic violence preferred.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking ability a plus.
Commitment:
  • One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
