Position Summary:
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office (DANY) seeks a Press Officer to join its Communications team. DANY is one of the nation’s preeminent prosecutor’s offices and a leader in the development of innovative crime fighting strategies and justice reform initiatives.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office (DANY) seeks a Press Officer to join its Communications team. DANY is one of the nation’s preeminent prosecutor’s offices and a leader in the development of innovative crime fighting strategies and justice reform initiatives.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Field inquiries from local, national, and international news outlets.
- Draft press releases, briefings, and remarks to be delivered by DA Vance and members of the DA’s executive team.
- Coordinate press conferences and public events.
- Monitor court appearances in high-profile cases.
- Generate story ideas and pitch them to print, broadcast, and web outlets.
- Perform on-call press duty, including occasional after-hours and weekend availability.
- Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned.
- Prior related work or internship experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff, other law enforcement agencies, and outside organizations.
- Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail oriented and self-motivated with the ability to multitask.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
- Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Experience with New York City media preferred.
- Interest in criminal justice, government, and politics a plus.
- One (1) year commitment to hiring bureau.
