Description
Position Summary:
The New York District Attorney’s Office (DANY) has an opening for a Bilingual (English/Chinese) Immigrant Affairs Coordinator in its Immigrant Affairs Unit. The Immigrant Affairs Unit focuses on fraud schemes targeting the immigrant community. In this position the Immigrant Affairs Coordinator is responsible for providing highly-skilled administrative and paralegal support to the Unit and DANY community. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assist Assistant District Attorneys in case preparation and investigations.
  • Answer calls to Immigrant Affairs Unit "Hotline".
  • Screen and track all Immigrant Affairs cases.
  • Maintain central files on all Immigrant Affairs complaints.
  • Compile statistical and anecdotal reports.
  • Serve as a liaison with community organizations and government agencies that provide services to immigrants.
  • Perform all assignments in an accurate, professional, and expeditious manner.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Mandarin oral and written fluency required; Cantonese a plus.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, and Internet required.
  • Ability to learn, update and edit existing proprietary applications and quickly learn and use various computer systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including excellent communication skills, oral and written are essential.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative, and good judgment required.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, court representatives, law enforcement representatives, witnesses, victims and community organizations.
  • Ability to work independently with frequent interruptions, manage deadlines, and adapt to changes in workflow.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Previous paralegal experience or professional experience working for or with community based organizations preferred.
  • Strong interest in immigration law or matters preferred.
Commitment:
  • Two (2) year commitment to the hiring unit.
