Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney’s Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for a Supervising Policy and Planning Analyst in its Bureau of Planning and Management. Planning functions as the internal management consulting arm of the office, overseeing data analysis, grants management, policy analysis and management of the Criminal Justice Investment Initiative, a $250 million investment in crime prevention and criminal justice system reform projects. In this position, the Supervising Policy and Planning Analyst will be responsible for supporting Planning with the aggregation, reporting, and analysis of enterprise data sets. This position requires a combination of analytical and interpersonal skills, as the ideal candidate will have the ability to perform rigorous analyses and motivation to deliver results to a non-technical audience.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create reports and dashboards for managerial staff.
  • Support policy projects through use of data to inform decision-making.
  • Develop automated methods to inform leadership of relevant data points.
  • Work in partnership with executive staff to develop key performance indicators.
  • Seek out, integrate, and analyze new sources of data applicable to DANY operations or priorities.
  • Collaborate with IT on infrastructure, tools, and policies.
  • Tread new ground in terms of analytical tools, methods, and techniques.
  • Identify new use cases, pilot concepts, and implement methods for using data to achieve office goals.
  • Educate staff on the power of data-driven work.
  • Manage a small team of data analysts.
  • Prioritize incoming requests and projects.
  • Use advanced techniques to answer office or system-wide questions.
  • Plan and execute program evaluations.
  • Partner with outside agencies or entities on data-driven projects.
  • Deploy statistical models to relevant user groups.
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with complex datasets.
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented, self-motivated, highly-organized, resourceful, and reliable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in R (or other statistical software), GIS software, or Python.
  • Proficiency Microsoft SQL or other RDBMS experience.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a related field (Social Sciences, Political Science Computer Science, or Criminal Justice) or similar experience.
  • Interest in, or knowledge of, the criminal justice system.
  • Microsoft Analysis Services or other OLAP experience.

Commitment:

  • A one (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
