Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney’s Office (DANY) has an opening for a Paralegal in its Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) Unit. The goal of this newly-created Unit is to reduce recidivism and promote public safety by placing and monitoring eligible defendants in quality programs that meet the defendants’ needs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assist Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) and other ATI Unit staff in case preparation.
  • Research closed and out-of-county case facts.
  • Draft subpoenas and other legal documents.
  • Coordinate case schedules with courts, law enforcement officials, and defense attorneys.
  • Compile and analyze documents for case determinations.
  • Assist ATI Unit staff with proofreading and locating files and documents.
  • Communicate case updates to ADAs.
  • Enter data into ATI Unit databases.
  • Perform related administrative and clerical tasks.
Qualifications:
  • Strong administrative, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Resourcefulness and initiative.
  • Detail-oriented and concern for data accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to learn and use DANY proprietary applications.
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and adapt to changes in workflow.

Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

Additional Requirements:
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking ability a plus.
  • Experience working within court/criminal justice systems a plus.

Commitment:
  • One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau
