Description
Position Summary: 
The New York County District Attorney’s Office has an immediate opening for an Assistant Counseling Supervisor in the Counseling Department of the Witness Aid Services Unit (WASU). In this position the Assistant Counseling Supervisor is responsible for providing counseling and therapeutic services to assist crime victims, witnesses, and their families, while supporting the counselors within the department.
  
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Provide direction and oversight to the Counseling department in the absence of the Supervisor
  • Supervise LMSW staff
  • Manage staff development (i.e. Talking Points)
  • Mental health evaluation and concrete needs assessment
  • Crisis intervention and Safety planning
  • Conduct counseling/therapy sessions in either individual and/or group setting
  • Advocacy and referrals to outside agencies
  • Support and court accompaniment throughout the criminal justice process
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date case files
  • Follow up contact with victims to monitor their connection to services
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team
  • Act as a liaison between victims, families, and Assistant District Attorneys and orient victims to the prosecutorial process and provide case status information
  • Provide case consultation on Counseling cases within the Special Victims Bureau
  • Supervise SIFI/BSW students
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • New York State LCSW
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Experience working with domestic violence, sexual assault and/or human trafficking preferred
  • Familiarity with the criminal justice system required
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity to victim issues a must
  • Ability to handle high caseload and set priorities
  • Excellent engagement, crisis intervention, and assessment skills needed
  • SIFI certification required, or must obtain within one year of hire
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment
  • Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment; must be detail oriented self-motivated and able to multi-task
  • Ability to interact effectively with victims, witnesses, Assistant District Attorneys, law enforcement officers and criminal justice personnel
Educational/Licensure Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Social Worker required.
  • LCSW required
  • SIFI certification required, or must obtain within one year of hire
Additional Requirements:
  • ASL proficiency plus
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible hours including holidays, evenings and weekends
 Commitment:
  • One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau
