Position summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for a Director in its Northern Manhattan Office. The Northern Manhattan Office is a satellite office of DANY which provides easier access to the resources of the District Attorney’s Office for people who live or work north of 96 Street. To achieve that goal, the Northern Manhattan Office is staffed by the Witness Aid Services Unit, Community Partnership Units and the Special Victims Bureau to address the specific concerns of crime victims, witnesses and concerned citizens. The Northern Manhattan Office is a vital link between DANY, community residents and law enforcement officials.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Oversight and coordination of all aspects of the Northern Manhattan Office.
  • Develop and implement strategies consistent with DANY’s strategic overall objectives.
  • Ability to independently plan, organize, and implement new programs and technology as the need arises.
  • Creating and disseminating high level comprehensive reports and presentations to and for the Executive team.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of the Executive team.
  • Ability to positively articulate DANY initiatives to community and communicate well with all cultural and ethnic groups within the community.
  • Directly supervise staff and ensure work is in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that victims, witnesses and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.
  • Perform public speaking and presentations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external service organizations, non-profit organizations and law enforcement agencies.  
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience working within a community based, public sector environment.
  • Strong leadership, management, organizational skills and interpersonal skills a must.
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to meet deadlines and promote and execute organizational initiatives, policies and procedures.
  • pc-based computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the willingness and ability to quickly learn new business appropriate software.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of supervisory and executive staff.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment to ensure office objectives are met.
  • Must be comfortable giving public presentations.
  • Bilingual ability a plus.
  • ASL a plus.  
Educational Requirements:
  •  Bachelor’s degree preferred  
Other Requirements:
  • One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau
  • (5) years of experience working with community based organizations or in the field of victim services
  • A minimum of three (3) years of managing and supervising staff
  • Previous experience in Criminal Justice preferred
  • Knowledge and experience working in NYC government preferred
  • Familiarity with local law enforcement and community based organizations
