Position Summary:
The New York District Attorney’s Office (DANY) has an opening for an Immigrant Affairs Coordinator, Spanish speaking, to work in its Immigrant Affairs Unit.  The Immigrant Affairs Unit focuses on fraud schemes targeting the immigrant community.  In this position the Immigrant Affairs Coordinator is responsible for providing highly-skilled administrative and paralegal support to the Unit and DANY community. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assist Assistant District Attorneys in case preparation and investigations.
  • Perform various paralegal tasks.
  • Answer calls to Immigrant Affairs Unit "Hotline".
  • Screen and track all Immigrant Affairs cases.
  • Maintain central files on all Immigrant Affairs complaints.
  • Compile statistical and anecdotal reports.
  • Serve as a liaison with community organizations and government agencies that provide services to immigrants.
  • Perform all assignments in an accurate, professional and expeditious manner.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, and Internet required.
  • Ability to learn, update and edit existing proprietary applications and quickly learn and use various computer systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Strong interest in immigration law or matters, a plus.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including excellent communication skills, oral and written are essential.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative and good judgment required.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, court representatives, law enforcement representatives, witnesses, victims and community organizations.
  • Ability to work independently with frequent interruptions, manage deadlines and adapt to changes in workflow.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
Additional Requirements:
  • One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
  • Previous paralegal experience or professional experience working for or with community based organizations, a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written Spanish bilingual skills required.
