Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Motion/Property Release Specialist in its Case Management Services. In this position the Motion/Property Release Specialist will support the prosecution of criminal cases by researching and processing property release requests, recording the receipt and proper distribution of defense motions, correspondences, medical records and various other documents filed with this office and assist with the coordination between agencies in the extradition of fugitives back to New York County.

 Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Research and process property release requests.
  • Notify Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) of property release requests and obtain necessary approvals.
  • Use Word, Excel, and various office computer programs and equipment to scan, view, enter, and copy defense motions, correspondence, medical records and civil subpoenas.
  • Assess and characterize documents filed with DANY.
  • Send motions received to assigned ADAs or other specialized bureaus.
  • Coordinate with DANY staff and other State and Federal agencies to facilitate the extradition of New York County fugitives.
  • Responsible for informing supervisors of potential problems with property and motions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Ability to greet and assist the public with courtesy and tact.
  • Ability to hear and speak accurately and distinctively.
  • Ability to coordinate and direct the services and activities related to property release.
  • Ability to operate modern office equipment, including computers and applicable software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to perform routine office functions such as word processing, filing, and record keeping.
  • Ability to update and edit existing databases.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Ability to work efficiently to meet deadline.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff and the public, with a high regard for confidentiality and diplomacy.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative and good judgment essential.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Other Requirements:
  • One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours
