The New York County District Attorney’s Office is accepting applications for the position of Director of its Witness Aid Services Unit (WASU).


The Witness Aid Services Unit provides a variety of court-related services, social services, and counseling services designed to meet the needs of crime victims, witnesses, and their families.  The Unit provides information related to the prosecution of the case, assists victims in understanding the criminal justice system, and provides information regarding crime victims’ rights.  In addition, WASU works collaboratively with Assistant District Attorneys to assist victims.  


The Director will have the overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Witness Aid Services Unit.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  Directly supervise WASU staff and ensure work is in compliance with established policies and procedures; develop, implement and enhance WASU programs to effectively meet the needs of the office; oversee the reporting of WASU funded grants and ensure program operations are in compliance with contract agreements; perform public speaking and presentations and promote program services; serve as the liaison with external victim service organizations. 


Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in social services or a related field and five (5) years of experience in social/victims services.  Two (2) years of prior supervisory experience preferred.  Previous experience in Criminal Justice preferred.  Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills a must.  Ability to work well with others in a team environment.  Strong problem solving skills required.  Ability to interact with all levels of supervisory and executive staff.  Must be comfortable in giving public presentations.  Bilingual ability a plus.
