Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney’s Office has an opening for a Paralegal in its Alternatives to Incarceration (“ATI”) Unit.  Paralegals in the ATI Unit provide a full range of support to Assistant District Attorneys as they determine which defendants are appropriate candidates for a variety of diversion programs. 
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Communicate with law enforcement agencies both within New York State and across the country to request the facts of closed and pending criminal cases.
  • Draft official documents such as Orders to Produce, subpoenas, transcript requests, etc.
  • Create files for defendants seeking acceptance into diversion programs and thoroughly investigate their criminal histories.
  • Communicate effectively with Assistant District Attorneys and other support staff both orally and in writing.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets to track relevant information for the ATI Unit.
  • Take detailed notes during witness interviews and defendant proffers.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent organization, communication, and creative problem solving skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn, update, and edit existing proprietary applications and various computer systems.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
  • Ability to work independently with frequent interruptions, manage deadlines, and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, court representatives, and law enforcement representatives.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Unofficial copy of your transcript 
  • A list of three (3) current professional references (a list of names with contact information)

Commitment:

  • One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau
