Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Case Coordinator in Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI). The goal of the newly-created initiative is to ensure that eligible defendants are offered programming and services that meet their needs, with the ultimate aim of reducing recidivism and promoting public safety. The Case Coordinator is responsible for managing a caseload of ATI defendants, facilitating defendant program referrals and placement, monitoring defendant compliance, and reporting outcomes to DANY and the court.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Manage a caseload of 30 – 50 ATI defendants.
  • Coordinate defendant referrals and placement in community-based programs that provide a wide range of services including substance use, mental health, anger management, sexual behavior, workforce development, adult education and youth programming.
  • Liaise between service providers, ADAs and the court to monitor defendant compliance and progress in programs.
  • Maintain contact with defendants between court dates to coordinate services.
  • Maintain relationships with service providers.
  • Procure reports from service providers regarding defendant progress.
  • Write court reports regarding defendants' progress throughout the course of their mandates.
  • Research and coordinate  access to benefits, entitlements and housing, as needed.
  • Maintain current, accurate, complete and timely documentation of defendant progress in charts, reports and databases.
  • Assist with administrative/paralegal tasks.

Qualifications:
  • Superior administrative, writing and communication skills.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative and good judgment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Experience working with databases.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Knowledge of the social service landscape in New York City.
  • Familiarity with the concept of procedural justice.
  • Knowledge of the Risk-Need-Responsivity model and the problem solving court model.
  • A strong desire to promote fairness within the criminal justice system.
  • A strong belief that rehabilitative approaches to justice involvement and addressing root causes of criminal behavior can yield positive public safety outcomes when appropriate defendants are matched with the right services.

Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Additional Requirements:
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking ability a plus
  • Experience working within court systems a plus.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in the criminal justice and/or social services field a plus.
     
Commitment:
  • Two (2) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
