Description
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Benefits Coordinator and Deputy Director of Human Resources the Associate acts as a liaison between employees and benefits programs assisting in the coordination and benefits administration for all employees including health insurance, dental insurance, flexible benefits, pension and deferred compensation programs.  
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Answer a large volume of telephone inquiries. Answer benefit questions, researches specific questions, and responds verbally or in writing as necessary. Receive, review, and process benefits applications.
  • Serve as liaison between City and DANY employees and benefits companies; resolve claim problems as necessary.
  • Communicate with representatives from health/dental insurance companies to discuss benefits/claims issues.
  • Perform all daily tasks required for maintaining health/dental insurance, flexible benefits, deferred compensation programs.
  • Complete all insurance verification requests from outside sources.
  • Review, revise, or initiate information brochures received from benefits companies.
  • Work closely with billing person and payroll supervisor to ensure that levels of coverage for all employees on benefits plan is accurate.
  • Represent or assist Benefits Coordinator at meetings.
  • Attend benefit seminars, conferences, etc.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment for health, dental, flexible benefits and other benefit programs.
  • Compiling benefit packets for orientation and assisting with orientation when necessary.
  • Providing information to employees regarding group insurance, disabilities, deferred compensation, COBRA, sick leave, vacation, personal holiday, and other leaves.
  • Processing COBRA information.
  • Notifying payroll and processing the paperwork for leaves of absences.
  • Assisting with Health Fairs, flu shots, and health promotions, and other projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate and complete special projects as necessary.
  • Perform related work as required.

Qualifications:
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Must possess effective oral and written communication skills, ability to remain professional throughout stressful situations, and resolve problems with creativity, confidentiality, and tact.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks with continued attention to detail.
  • Must have functional knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to deal with and maintain strict confidentiality.

Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Additional Requirements:
  • Related benefits experience a plus.

Commitment:
  • One (1) year commitment to hiring bureau.
