Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Paralegal in its Quality of Life Unit to start August 1, 2016. The Quality of Life Unit handles low-level misdemeanor and violation cases that are adjourned from arraignments directly to the BTP1, QOL, APY, and VTL parts (QOL parts). All appropriate hearings are consented to on these cases. The cases are not assigned to misdemeanor Assistants, but rather, are managed and supervised by the Quality of Life Unit. The cases are tried by the Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) staffing the parts. The Quality of Life Unit also manages Project Reset, a pre-arraignment diversion program. In addition it staffs and supervises cases in the youth parts (APY 1 and 2). In this position the Paralegal is responsible for providing a full-range of support to the ADAs. To include the intake and management of a large volume of cases.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist in intake and organization of large volume of cases
- Conduct initial searches to determine eligibility of Project Reset defendants.
- Organize and implement tasks on cases
- Work with police and civilian witnesses to gather paperwork and prepare paperwork to provide to defense counsel
- Notify witnesses and secure evidence for trial
- Draft legal documents and response to discovery requests
- Answer phones and handle inquiries or direct inquiries to appropriate ADA
- Provide additional support to ADAs in Unit, ADAs trying QOL cases, and ADAs staffing QOL court parts
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Excellent organization, communication, writing and creative problem solving skills are essential.
- Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple assignments
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
- Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy
- Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, court representatives, law enforcement representatives and witnesses
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau
