Description
Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Sr. Investigative Analyst for its Public Assistance Fraud Unit (PAFU), in its Trial Division. PAFU, in partnership with the New York City Human Resource Administration (HRA), investigates and prosecutes fraud and abuse committed by recipients of public assistance. In this position, the Sr. Investigative Analyst is responsible for providing highly skilled analytical investigative support to the unit's Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs), and the office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting ADAs in all aspects of PAFU Investigations, including conducting in-depth investigations into the finances of suspects, generating subpoenas and other documents to request evidence, examining financial and other related records, securing witnesses for grand jury or trial, creating excel spreadsheets and grand jury and trial exhibits as needed.
  • Conducting internet and database searches using tools such as Thompson Reuters CLEAR, ACRIS and the NYS EJustice Portal to develop full backgrounds of defendants, to identify any unknown assets, and gather additional evidence.
  • Working with HRA, NYPD, DANY Squad, the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General, as well as other Federal, State, and Local Law agencies.
  • Maintaining a database archive to track the history and progress of all cases received from HRA or initiated by DANY.
  • Handling and monitoring restitution checks from defendants and updating a spreadsheet that reflects restitution collected on PAFU Cases.
  • Analyzing case files with the goal of exploring new investigatory opportunities.
  • Preparing case summary reports.

Qualifications:
  • Computer proficiency required: Microsoft Office (specifically Excel); advanced knowledge of criminal justice investigative internet search techniques.
  • Proficiency in Internet search strategies and techniques.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple assignments required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, witnesses, defense attorneys, financial institutions, regulators, and law enforcement agencies to build institutional relationships a must.
  • Ability to testify in court regarding investigative results.
  • Superior organizational, time management, writing and communication skills are essential.  

Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Additional Requirements:
  • One year of criminal justice paralegal experience.

Commitment:
  • A one (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
