Description
Position Summary:

The New York County District Attorney's Office has an opening for a Program Coordinator in its Quality of Life Unit (QOL). In this position the Program Coordinator is responsible for providing highly-skilled supervisory, administrative, and paralegal support to the unit and Office.  QOL is responsible for handling pre-trial preparation for prosecutions for selected crimes, such as theft of services, misdemeanor-level drug possession, unlicensed general vending, trespass, and transit and park rule violations. In addition, QOL works with the Vehicular Crimes Unit and the All Purpose Youth Part (APY), an adolescent diversion program. 
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Answer the QOL telephone and respond to inquiries and direct calls to ADAs as appropriate.
  • Responsible for intake of cases, including preparing physical and electronic files, ordering 911 calls.
  • Assist QOL ADA's in all aspects of investigations and trials.
  • Compile and analyze case documents for hearings and trials.
  • Coordinate case schedules with courts, law enforcement officials, witnesses and defense attorneys.
  • Notify witnesses and secure evidence for trial.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence and legal documents.
  • Maintain unit databases and files.
  • Provide support to clinical students, court part ADAs and QOL ADAs.
  • Perform related administrative and paralegal tasks to support the efficient operations of QOL.
  • Attend to other miscellaneous responsibilities relating to the Unit's efficient coordination.
  • Perform other administrative and paralegal duties.
  • Serves as DANY’s liaison between local, state and federal agencies.
  • Perform computerized data searches relevant to unit cases.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to supervise various levels of staff based on agency initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Ability to quickly learn in-house proprietary applications.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple short-term projects.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff, witnesses, defense attorneys and law enforcement personnel.
  • Computer proficiency required: Microsoft Office (specifically Excel); advanced knowledge of criminal justice investigative internet search techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word required; knowledge of Access and Excel required.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to manage multiple assignments.
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral required.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Preferred Requirements:

  • One year of criminal justice experience preferred.
  • Paralegal experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of the New York County District Attorney’s Office and criminal justice system a plus.
  • Familiarity with the Office and New York courts a plus.
