Description
Position summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for an Assistant Supervisor in its Case Management Services Unit (CMS). In this position the Assistant Supervisor is responsible for providing supervisory support to the Alternate Sentencing Program, CMS and DANY.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Supervise and monitor defendants sentenced to community service as mandated by Criminal Court.
  • Ensure defendant compliance with the procedures and regulations pertaining to the programs.
  • Conduct defendant interviews.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public, court personnel regarding procedures of the programs.
  • Demonstrate polite, helpful and knowledgeable attitude to the public promoting a positive image of the office.
  • Update and manage proprietary in-house databases to track defendant service records.
  • Work closely with defendants in various office and courtroom environments.
  • Schedule and assign defendants to appropriate programs.
  • Testify in court.
  • Gather and prepare documents needed to testify on cases.
  • Consistently and proactively anticipate and respond to the Assistant District Attorneys' requests for information on community service cases.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to supervise various levels of staff based on office initiatives.
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
  • Ability to maintain, update and edit existing and new in-house proprietary databases.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple short-term projects.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Interpret and explain the procedures and regulations pertaining to the assigned community service programs to the Assistant District Attorneys and the courts.
  • Interpret, apply, explain and ensure defendant compliance with the procedures and regulations pertaining to the programs.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment; detail oriented and self-motivated.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff, witnesses, defense attorneys, law enforcement personnel, community residents, community organizations and partners, law enforcement agencies to build institutional relationships a must.
  • Ability to prioritize among competing needs and respond quickly to requests for information.
  • An understanding of general practices related to legal records management, data protection, and privacy/confidentiality.

Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in the Criminal Justice System strongly preferred.


Commitment:

  • One (1) year commitment to hiring bureau.
