Position Summary:

The New York County District Attorney's Office has an immediate opening for an Assistant Bureau Secretary (Temporary full-time 6 months - 1 year*) in its Special Victims Bureau. The Special Victims Bureau oversees five units that specialize in handling cases involving special victims: the Sex Crimes Unit, Child Abuse Unit, Domestic Violence Unit, Elder Abuse Unit, and Human Trafficking Unit. The mission of the bureau is to bring order and stability to victims' lives while ensuring that their voices are heard in the criminal justice system. In this position the Assistant Bureau Secretary (Temporary)  is responsible for providing secretarial support to the Special Victims Bureau.

*This position has the potential of becoming long term.
 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Perform various receptionist, clerical and secretarial duties. Answer phones and answers inquiries from DANY staff.
  • Responsible for working with Specialized Administrative Assistant and Bureau Secretary to ensure efficient management of bureau operations.
  • Maintain and update the bureau's database system. Organize and maintain  the Child Abuse Unit's filing system.
  • Acts as first point person of contact for witnesses, victims, and law enforcement officials.
  • Prepares legal documents and correspondence for the bureau.
  • Provide support and assistant to Bureau Secretary as needed.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned.
  • Perform all assignments in an accurate, professional and expeditious manner.
 
Qualifications:
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word; knowledge of Excel preferred.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff and witnesses.
  • Spanish speaking is preferred.
  • American Sign Language a plus.

Educational Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • College degree preferred
