Position summary:
The New York District Attorney’s Office has an immediate opening for a Legislative Analyst in its Legislative Affairs Unit. In this position, working closely with the unit director and senior executive management, the Legislative Analyst is responsible for analyzing city, state, and federal legislation, as well as researching and writing memoranda on various criminal justice issues. This position will be based in Washington D.C. (no relocation assistance is provided).
 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Research and write briefings, publications, and memos about legislation and policy.
  • Provide essential updates to director and senior executive management on status of issues before scheduled briefings.
  • Monitors media stories daily. 
  • Track legislative bills.
  • Update director on status of legislation.
  • Liaison to law enforcement agencies for meetings and hearings.
  • Note-taking; meeting preparation and coordination.
  • Work extensively with the District Attorney’s Association of the State of New York and the New York State Law Enforcement Council.
  • Organize and maintain various filing and records management systems.
  • Assist with unit administrative tasks as assigned. 
  • Perform all assignments in an accurate, professional and expeditious manner.  
 
Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal essential.
  • Strong attention to detail in reading, writing, and editing are imperative.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
  • Self-motivated and resourceful.
  • Possess excellent organizational and computer skills.
  • Must present a mature, professional demeanor.
  • Must express enthusiasm and interest for the underlying work process.
  • Ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff, with a high regard for confidentiality and diplomacy.
 
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
 
Additional Requirements:
  • Interest in New York State and City politics is a must.
  • Experience working in government is highly preferred.
 
Commitment:
  • Two (2) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
