Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office has an immediate opening for a Mandarin/ Fuzhounese /Cantonese Interpreter (Temporary position- minimum 1 year) in its Interpreter Unit /Special Prosecution Bureau. In this position the Interpreter is responsible for providing interpreting and translation support to the unit and office.

The New York County District Attorney's Office has an immediate opening for a Mandarin/ Fuzhounese /Cantonese Interpreter (Temporary position- minimum 1 year) in its Interpreter Unit /Special Prosecution Bureau. In this position the Interpreter is responsible for providing interpreting and translation support to the unit and office.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ability to translate both written and verbal communication from English to Mandarin/ Fuzhounese and Cantonese and Mandarin/ Fuzhounese and Cantonese to English.
- Prepare translated transcriptions from recordings
- Provide interpretations as required by phone conferences or in person interviews.
- Render court testimony on translations and interpretations performed. Proofread translations and provide feedback.
- Attesting to translations and interpretation in various court settings.
- Take telephone requests for language services and update unit database. In a team effort support Unit staff with translation & interpretation assignments as assigned by supervisor.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Excellent oral Mandarin, Fuzhounese and Cantonese skills required, as well as excellent written traditional and simplified Chinese.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Ability to update and edit existing databases.
- Experience in legal simultaneous and consecutive interpretation required.
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned caseload.
- Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail and high concern for translation/interpretation accuracy.
- Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff and vendors.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
- Court Interpreter Certification preferred.
